Monthly Prayer Letter | May 2025
Dear Companions,
Looking around the world, the tug of war among those in power is shaping the survival and future of humanity. We are living in an unprecedented era; is this the worst of times? Perhaps it is also the best of times. In different corners of the world, many still seek values higher than earthly pursuits, yearning for goodness and spiritual experiences. Surveys show that while the younger generation feels connected to institutional religion, they remain open to inner spiritual experiences. It could be said that we are witnessing a great awakening of spirituality. If this is true, we must ask: Is the global Church prepared to welcome those who are earnestly seeking deeper meaning in life?
Can the lives of Christians truly connect with people of our times? Can believers who gather in church as usual discern the deep-rooted conflicts and entanglements in society, truly understanding the pressures and tensions their neighbors face in daily life? Whether our lives can embody the Gospel is not by conforming to a set of rules that restrict behavior, but by contemplating the world’s disorder through Jesus’ eyes, listening to the voices of the people with the Lord’s ears, and being present and walking alongside others with the compassion and prompting of our Savior. The Church does not exist to guard its own traditions but to continually allow the Gospel to illuminate the good inherited within those traditions, even to lay down everything we possess for the sake of Christ.
Acts 10–11 records Peter’s vision, which transformed his traditional views on what is clean and unclean and reshaped his values of faith, leading him to accept uncircumcised Gentiles as fellow believers and members of God’s family. Peter knew this revelation was not for him alone and shared it with the Jewish brothers in Jerusalem. After much debate (Acts 11:2), they finally embraced this new understanding—that God had granted repentance even to the Gentiles (Acts 11:18). Thus, their long-held religious traditions were renewed by the power of the Gospel to align with God’s work in that era. Today, what the Church most needs to repent of may be its deeply ingrained frameworks of thought. What the Church most needs are hearts fully open to the Lord, so that when God’s vision comes, it is not dismissed as impractical novelty.
The FES Inter-school Department has launched this year’s DSE Discipleship Program. Please pray for over ten Form 6 students participating. May the Lord protect their studies and growth, spiritually preparing them for the new chapter of university life and grant them grace and strength to face every challenge. May they witness God’s care and experience the richness and beauty of life in all its dimensions. Additionally, we are preparing for the 3rd Youth Bible Conference. If you know any soon-to-be university students or current college-age believers, we warmly invite them to join this meaningful two-day summer camp. It will help them build a faith community in university, becoming companions who can share the highs and lows of their spiritual journeys—how wonderful and precious this is!
Following our annual donation appeal in February and March, we have received an outpouring of love and support from fellow companions, which has deeply encouraged us. We still hope more brothers and sisters in Christ can contribute monthly, stabilizing and increasing our regular income to ease the operational pressures our team faces daily. Here, we sincerely invite you to join the "Mission Extension Campaign”, offering a small monthly gift, stand with us in nurturing and cherishing the lives of young people.
May we together experience the soul-satisfying peace found in Christ, a gift the world cannot give.
Your brother in Christ,
Barry Cheung
General Secretary
