Dear companions of FES,
We hope that both teachers and students have settled in well at the beginning of the new school year. Education is about life. Apart from passing on knowledge, it is also about listening to the vital needs of life and learning to embrace the challenges of life in a relationship of mutual trust and encouragement. In addition to operating under the new normal of pandemic prevention, many schools have to cope with the challenges of student enrolment or class reduction, and are under considerable operational hardship. May the Lord, who gives us the power of good, keep us all in our positions to see the wholeness and dignity of created life as God sees it, and especially to create more humane relationships and living spaces for our next generation.
The gospel we believe in is an unconditional gospel of God’s mercy and acceptance of sinners, freely given to each one of us not according to human performance or status. In the presence of God, we are justified and restored to our identity, which is the unshakable dignity of our human nature, not the meaning we have received under the works of the law (Gal. 2:16). Therefore, no matter where we live or what we do, by God’s goodness and mercy, we can regain the fullness of life in faith.
Education is a part of creation, giving new meaning to life, and at the heart of youth ministry is the shaping of space for growth rather than the implementation of tasks. We are thankful that this year’s Inter-school Orientation can be held physically this Saturday and the responses are very good. With the theme of “Space”, we seek to experience the creation process of “God sees what is good” with the students. May the Lord strengthen our Inter-school department and the speakers of the workshops. The orientation programmes of various university fellowships have been almost completed and have generally brought in a good number of new students, while some unbelievers have happily participated and energised the fellowship. Hope that they will be connected in Christ, supporting and sustaining each other in their faith.
I never imagined that God would prepare me for a memorable journey, allowing me to complete my first term as General Secretary in quarantine. With faith and hope, and with my co-workers, I stay on pursuing my calling to student evangelism and faith-based training for youth. Looking ahead, as the storms remain, are we prepared to face the test of our faith at any time, as the situation where Peter, who denied his Lord, found himself? My grace is sufficient for you: for my power is made perfect in weakness. (2 Cor. 12:9)
FES is only possible with the generous donations of our supporters, and the growth in the spiritual lives of our students is our reward. We hope that you will share this heavenly blessing with us, respond to our practical needs in prayer, and support the work of FES by making a monthly commitment so that we can move forward with the confidence and strength to see the path ahead when we take the next step.
