The 39th United Christian Book Fair was held successfully from October 23-29, 2024. In line with the two FES Press publications this year, our theme at the book fair is “Traversing through the Bible and the City”. We hope to bring a new reading journey to our readers.

New Book Publishing

FES is committed to nurturing believers’ “Word-centered lives.” Not only do we study the Bible rationally, but we also emphasize that reading the Bible is a practice of a “real encounter with the Word”. Therefore, we are launching a brand-new series, Bible Engagement, which urges a life-committed approach to reading the Bible. Through the discipline of reading the Bible, we are asking believers to submit their lives to the will of God. Bible Reading is a Journey of Traversing is the first publication in this series, written by Fox Lo, our Associate General Secretary. This book introduces the reader to a three-world framework of biblical hermeneutics and takes the believer on a journey through the “textual world”, the “post-textual world”, and the “reader’s world”. Not only are examples of Bible studies included, but also Bible study worksheets are provided to help pastors and small group leaders use the book in their Bible studies.

Seminar of Christian Book Fair on “Spirituality and Ethics: A Holistic Perspective”

Along with the pursuit of a solid life of Bible study, spirituality is even more indispensable for the believers. Hence, we invited Dr. TANG Sui Keung, Distinguished Professor of Theology and Ethics of the Bible Seminary of Hong Kong, to write “Urban Spirituality”. We were honored to invite him to share his new book entitled “Spirituality and Ethics Dance Together – A Holistic Vision” at the Christian Book Fair. More than 40 people were present on that day. This book is not a general devotional tool, but aims to invite readers to take a walk in the city, to follow Jesus’ example of “reading” the city phenomenon with spiritual eyes, to see what is wrong with its underlying logic, and how it constructs human nature; and then to awaken it and guide people back to the Lord’s way.

Urban Spirituality Day Camp
Reading Promotion

With the closing of the Christian Book Fair, various kinds of reading promotion activities will be launched soon, aiming to facilitate readers to communicate and learn from each other. We co-organized the “Urban Spirituality Day Camp” with the Bible Seminary of Hong Kong. The response was very encouraging, with a total of 110 participants attending the two sessions, to experience the Lord’s presence in the midst of the city through the city walks and the art workshops. In addition, we will be organizing a talk and Bible study workshop for “Bible Reading is a Journey of Traversing” to further introduce readers to the “Three Worlds” approach to reading the Bible.

Acknowledgement

Lastly, the success of the above publication projects and book launches is the result of the concerted efforts of our readers, staff, and fellow workers. We would like to thank all the supporters of FES Press. Also, Special thanks to the Agur Foundation, the Bible Seminary of Hong Kong, and InPress Books for their incredible assistance.
