Monthly Prayer Letter (Apr 2025)

Dear Companions of FES,

As Easter Sunday has just passed, have you experienced spiritual renewal? Today, the church is accustomed to celebrating Jesus’ resurrection, His victory over the power of death, and the hope He brings for humanity’s ultimate destiny. When the Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian church, the resurrection had not yet been formally recognized as an official church doctrine. Paul expressed concern, saying, “How can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? … If Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith” (1 Cor 15:12-14). Therefore, Paul exhorted the believers, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you” (1 Cor 15:58a), and hold firmly to the truth that “Christ has indeed been raised from the dead… so in Christ all will be made alive” (1 Cor 15:20-22). The resurrected body that Christ revealed to the apostles carried the healed wounds of the nails and other injuries. If our perishable and fleshly bodies will likewise experience the power of resurrection, this assures us that every wound we suffer in this life will surely be healed and renewed, just like the scars on Christ’s hands.

The creed “I believe in the resurrection of the body” is not only about the future, but also deeply connected to our present lives. Nothing, not even a single person or event in our lives, is beyond the promise of complete transformation through resurrection. Everything is in the hands of the Lord. Therefore, we can live today with greater lightness and freedom for His sake, without placing too much emphasis on immediate results. “Because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Cor 15:58b). It will ultimately be accepted in the Kingdom of God. Last month, we held the seminar “Pastoral Care Initiative: A Trauma-Informed Approach” Seminar,” with over 150 participants. As we grow in understanding trauma-informed ministry, we can place all our experiences from these years into the healing hands of the resurrected Lord. The changes we can bring about through our efforts are limited, but we fix our eyes on the power of the risen Christ to reveal Himself to us today.

April is the month when Form 6 students face the DSE public exams. Our Inter-School Team has been posting daily devotionals on Instagram to support and encourage students under immense pressure. We hope they can cast all their burdens upon the Lord through prayer and peacefully navigate from the first exam day to the last. Additionally, the team has specially designed this year’s DSE Summer Discipleship Program, helping students reflect on what it means to live as true disciples through everyday activities like eating, drinking, and leisure. We encourage you to invite any Form 6 students you know to join this life-changing summer program.

This year, the “Integral Mission Summer Program” for tertiary students has been adjusted to better meet the spiritual needs of university believers. I would also like to make an appeal: FES has established a matching fund for students participating in summer mission programs, with a budget based on this year’s attendance. We hope to raise HK$55,000 for this fund to support students’ living expenses during the program. If you feel moved to respond and walk alongside these committed participants, please indicate “IMSP Matching Fund” in your donation.

FES’s student ministry, which has been entrusted to us by God, is carried out entirely by faith. We are deeply grateful to our fellow companions who have consistently supported us through prayer and donations, enabling us to wholeheartedly offer our best without seeking personal gain, but only desiring to accompany young people as they grow and receive the most attentive nurturing. May you join us in sharing this wondrous experience: the more we give, the greater the grace we receive.

Your brother,

Barry Cheung

General Secretary
