Monthly Prayer Letter (Mar 2025)

Dear companions of FES,

We are thankful for the successful completion of the FES Day, ” Pastoral Care Initiative: An Trauma-Informed Approach” Seminar, this past Sunday. We are sincerely grateful to the four speakers for their thoughtful preparation and insightful sharing, which balanced academic depth with practical experience, offering inspiration and light to all participants. This seminar is just the beginning. We deeply sense the need for the Holy Spirit’s renewal in the pastoral culture of Hong Kong churches today. Yet amid the current reality, this is no easy task. We hope to gather fellow companions together through this seminar and unite with greater strength in the Lord to courageously press forward step by step, rebuilding a faith community that is connected in suffering.

FES is walking alongside the church in these times. We are currently planning workshops related to “trauma-informed care” to equip and prepare committed pastors and workers to cope with the challenges of our times. Additionally, we will co-organize a day camp “Encounter with the Word” with the Christian Spiritual Direction and Resource Centre, aiming to serve young pastors. This camp will integrate biblical theology with spiritual disciplines, helping pastors experience the presence and revelation of the “Word” while being enlightened and shaped in both intellect and spirit. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (John 1:4). Without experiencing this light, one’s life will not see the true path. May the Lord use our work.

Furthermore, FES frontline staff are busy preparing for summer ministries, including the DSE Discipleship Training Program, inter-school discipleship camps for secondary students, and Student Evangelism Full-Time Ministry Experience Program and Calling Exploration and Calling Equipping Program for university students. We hope that through these summer opportunities, our staff can walk closely with young believers, helping them understand themselves, live out their mission, and discern God’s guidance and purpose for their lives. Please pray for our team—that we may have wisdom and energy in planning these programs, and that God would stir students’ hearts to participate. The Lord says, “I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul” (Jeremiah 32:41). May we fulfill the Lord’s will.

This year, we will organize the 3rd Youth Bible Conference on July 31 and August 1 at Evangelical Free Church of China Waterloo Hill Church, with the theme “Undefined—Embracing the (Un)Certainty of Faith.” We hope to gather high school graduates who have grown up in churches and university students who have not yet connected with campus fellowships. Through this two-day camp, we will equip participants intellectually and emotionally to experience a paradigm shift in their faith worldview. We invite church pastors to encourage young people to join. We believe that when young people learn to embrace the openness of faith, they will stand firm in the chaotic values of university culture, discerning and making the right choices.

Over the past year, the number of donors supporting FES has continued to decline. We are launching the Mission Extension Campaign, hoping more companions will join us in long-term, monthly giving—even a small amount—to sustain this work. We invite you to prayerfully consider supporting us with HK$100 or more per month as a long-term partner. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). May you join us in witnessing the reality and abundance of God’s kingdom in our service. Amen!

Your brother,

Barry Cheung

General Secretary
